Transform coding of audio signals using perceptual noise criteria

چکیده

A 4 bit/sample transform coder is designed using a psychoacoustically derived noise masking threshold based on the shortterm input spectrum of the signal. The coder has been tested in a formal subjective test involving a wide selection of monophonic audio inputs. The signals used in the test were of 15 kHz bandwidth, sampled at 32 kHz. The bit rate of the resulting coder was 128 kbits/s. The subjective test shows that the coded signal could not be distinguished from the original at that bit rate. Subsequent informal work suggests that a bit rate of 96 kbits/s may maintain transparency for the set of inputs used in the test.

High Quality Audio Coding at Low Bit Rate Using Wavelet and Wavelet Packet Transform

Audio coding is widely used in application such as digital broadcasting, Internet audio or music database to reduce the bit rate of high quality audio signal without comprising the perceptual quality. In this paper work high quality audio codec at low bit rate using wavelet transform and improvement in reconstructed wave using post filtering has been proposed. The major issues concerning the de...

An adaptive wavelet-based approach for perceptual low bit rate audio coding attending to entropy-type criteria

This paper outlines an adaptive wavelet-based perceptual audio coding scheme attending to various entropy-type criteria. Its performance using some different wavelet families and various filter lengths and decomposition depths has also been investigated. An optimal choice of these parameters is accomplished in order to evaluate both quality and bit rate of compressed signals for four different ...

Perceptual Coding of Narrowband Audio Signals at 8 Kbit / S *

This paper proposes a VQ-based transform coding scheme for audio signals ( sampled at 8 kHz) at very low bit rates. This coder uses a new perceptually based distortion measure, which takes into account the energy of audible noise, in both training the codebooks and selecting the best codew ords.An adaptive bit allocation strategy based on the distribution of the energy of the transform coe cien...

An Enhanced Low Bit Rate Audio Codec Using Discrete Wavelet Transform

Audio coding is the technology to represent audio in digital form with as few bits as possible while maintaining the intelligibility and quality required for particular application. Interest in audio coding is motivated by the evolution to digital communications and the requirement to minimize bit rate, and hence conserve bandwidth. There is always a tradeoff between lowering the bit rate and m...

A New Algorithm for Voice Activity Detection Based on Wavelet Packets (RESEARCH NOTE)

Speech constitutes much of the communicated information; most other perceived audio signals do not carry nearly as much information. Indeed, much of the non-speech signals maybe classified as ‘noise’ in human communication. The process of separating conversational speech and noise is termed voice activity detection (VAD). This paper describes a new approach to VAD which is based on the Wavelet ...
